Squash

Last night I made a really good dinner- but ate it really late last night, around 8:30! I got caught in a phone call for 4 hours- Finally had to rudly eat dinner on the phone or I would have had dinner at 11.

My dinner was Spegetti squash with Turkey sausage. really good for low carb diets- I am going to use this now instead of pasta. It is not a cheap alternative to pasta but much better for you!

so, how much of a difference do you guys think eating late at night makes in your diet?

  1. I used to have a rule- no eating after 7PM. I don't know how well it works though, because I always broke it. :) Like last night I didn't get home from my second job until 9:15, and I ate some leftovers from Sunday night (pork chop & mac & cheese). I probably should have just gone for the bowl of Fiber One cereal, which I will remind myself to do next time!

  2. For me, it doesn't matter what time I eat, it's what I'm eating.... I used to work retail, and during my last retail job, I lost a good amount of weight, and my hrs of eating were very erratic. I kept active, ate decently, but sometimes dinner wasn't until 1030pm. But everyone's body is different....

The only time eating late poses a problem for me is when I'm starving by the time I get to my meal... and I scarf down so much because I'm starving!!!

  3. I don't like to eat late because I drink so much water and tea during the day and if I have water with my meal late, I need to get up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom. And I hate that. That happened last night. It was about 330am when I woke up. And I laid there hoping it would go away and I could just back to sleep, but I had to get up. But I think as long as you eat healthy portions, it won't matter what time you eat. I read a good blog on that. I'll try to find and post.

  4. I LOVE sphagetti squash! it's so crunchy! I bake it with onions and toss it with olives and a littel parmesian (sp?) cheese

there are def two schools of thought, some say just eat whenever and keep your calories in control, others say its no good to eat after 8. not eating after 8 isn't realistic for me so I lean towards the total calories school

I found one article, I haven't found the original one I was thinking of yet.
3- Will eating late at night lead to weight gain?
The common assumption is that eating late at night will not give your body the chance to burn off the calories and you will gain weight. The truth is that your body processes calories the same way at night and during the day. The problem with late-night eating is that people tend to indulge in junk food rather than something healthy and that is what leads to weight gain. http://www.askmen.com/sports/foodcourt_60/80_eating_well.html

  6. I need to make spagetti squash, sounds good. I am not sure about the late night eating as I have never been able to stick to it. I agree with "its what you eat, not when you eat" philosophy.
