help: stress related urge to eat

When I'm feeling overwhelmed I have the urge to eat. I have a healthy lunch with me but feel like going to get a big ole BLT or something. stress related eating is (yet another) problem for me. tips... anyone ?

  1. Cup of tea or water. And a BLT isn't horrible, have it on whole wheat toast and no mayo, let the juicy tomato be your condiment.
hmmm. . . chew some gum? I'm full right now, but I went to the fridge in the office 5 minutes ago for something to eat and stopped myself b/c I'm full. So I'm chewing gum right now. It's hard - I don't eat when I'm stressed, I eat when I'm bored. I like to find healthy food I can munch on for a half hour or so. Like my celery with pb, I'll put pb on two pieces, eat one, do more work, eat the other, do more work, put more pb on 2 more pieces, etc. It takes 45 minutes to eat it. Today I had raspberries and blackberries that I munched on for an hour.

  2. TL- I feel your pain. Something about eating something super yummy and not good for me always seems to heal some stress- but it's only for a little while! then i have to deal with the stress of having eaten more calories than I should have!!

When I get super stressed, instead of going for some chocolate, i get up and take a brisk walk around the office and factory. Everyone thinks I'm going somewhere important! It takes my mind off of whatever is stressing me- a for a little bit at least...

  3. thanks ladies. I took a deep breath, focused on the ACTUAL problem, went to a meeting, then came back to the office to find yet more stress and ate an orange instead of chips.

I've learned to NOT have any change on me. No change means no vending machine.

your advice helps. I might bring in some PB. PB is a problem food for me, I tend to be able to eat an awful ot of it in one sitting. But if I leave it at the office and bring in an apple or celery to dip it in, perhaps I can control the portion consumption

    Thanks for your support!
