Disappointed
So I'm pretty disappointed with myself. I can't seem to lose a pound and it's very frustrating. Nothing seems to be working. I don't even know if there is a point to blog anymore. It's hard to see everyone else's success, it just makes me feel worse about myself. I know I need to start counting calories if I want to lose weight but it's hard to keep track I get so busy during the day. It's also very hard to have fun and diet! My friends are always going out drinking and having a good time. It's hard to say no to that. I'm at a loss at what to do. Maybe I should do some type of detox to clear all the junk out of my system. Anyone got any other ideas?

sorry you're so frustrated... but unfortunately there are a lot of sacrifices involved with achieving this type of goal... \
ReplyDeleteI’m assuming that South Beach isn’t working for you… is it the format of the diet plan, or are you finding it hard to stay motivated on that plan? different diets work for different people, that's the truth... I know that the Atkins approach is working for Mark, while the calorie/WW points counting works for me. Maybe you can try a different type of plan. Regardless of what you choose, there will be extra effort involved…. I know you are very busy, but maybe you could set aside some time for yourself, just as you would for a meeting with a client or an associate, to help focus on your weight loss goal, if it involves calorie counting, or whatever it may be.
I know a lot of people that have had success with detox, but even after that, you will have to find some way to reach your goal weight and maintain.
It sounds like you're at the point where you have to weigh out your choices and make a sacrifice either way:
If you choose dieting, you will have to sacrifice some of your drinking when you go out, and make a point to take the extra time out of your schedule to keep track and/or focus on some kind of plan... on the other hand, if you choose going out and drinking, that's fine... but realize you're sacrificing your bikinis....
I mean this with all the best intentions, but it sounds like you need a good kick in the ass! I do not think you are trying hard enough. You need to do is set a realistic goal and be honest with yourself. If you really want to lose weight, I think you need to make some changes in your lifestyle. Booze - get rid of it. Its poison to your body and it definitely slows weight loss. If you need an out, go to the gym or find a hobby. Meals - stay away from fatty foods and restaurants. Don't cheat. Stay away from those Southwestern Egg Rolls! You need to drink at least 10 glasses of water a day. Get a big water bottle and keep it on you at work. Sleep - Get at least 7 hours a night. You can do it. Set a time and make sure you're in bed. Your body needs downtime to work effectively. If you have trouble sleeping, take a Tylenol Simply Sleep 9 hours before you need to be up.
ReplyDeleteWe are all busy. You need to make the time for yourself. You can go out to the bar, but drink water. You can have a good time without alcohol. I haven't had a drink since we started this blog, and I consider myself a heavy drinker. You know how to lose the weight, but you need to commit to yourself. You can do it.
yeah you guys are both right. i am happy with my work outs for the most part and i do drink lots of water (thanks to ESPN for our free water bottles!) but i do cheat more than i should. south beach was working well until i just kinda forgot about it and started eating fruit again and then it was all downhill from there. and sleep! i need that. in fact i am probably gonna go to bed right after i post this. Mark, I don't know how you do it. I cut back on my drinking a lot but it's hard to be around people and say keep saying no after the hundreth time they ask if you want a drink. I feel like there is always something coming up that ruins my diet and forces me to make bad decisions. i definitely do need to try harder and a good kick in the ass would help too!
ReplyDeleteeven if you don't count up the calories, just writing down and/or posting what you've taken in for the day really helps.... knowing you have to write it down and/or tell someone what you ate gives you more accountability....
ReplyDeleteGood luck sweetie. we're here for you!!
Just say no! Water or Diet Coke!!
ReplyDeleteTell your friends you have developed an allergic reaction to alcohol. Tell them you have an ulcer. They wont bother you again.
You know you tend to make bad decision when you drink. Believe me, I know!

"Don't Drink Alcohol"
"It is best not to consume alcohol in any amount from any source. Alcohol is a by-product of yeast digestion (the yeast equivalent of urine) and is known to damage the stomach, kidneys, and liver. Alcohol adds fat principally by producing cravings for both itself and other carbohydrates (see snack trays at any bar) and even other addictive substances (ask any former smoker.)
