Inspiration (I hope)

So I get constant emails every day about weight loss and eating healthy, etc. Two of them from this morning talk about what happens when you mess up. Here is one email newsletter I received on diet slipups:

The poet Alexander Pope said it best: "To err is human, to forgive divine." Everyone on this diet is human, and everyone is going to cheat. If it's not a slice of cake at an office birthday party, then it might be potato chips during the big game, or those irresistible doughnuts. Cheating occurs especially around snack time, when you're going to be craving your favorite comfort foods. Remember the second part of the quotation and forgive yourself for your transgression — don't destroy a day of good eating because of a silly mistake. Just because you ate a candy bar after lunch doesn't mean you should skip having a healthy dinner! You're up to the challenge of staying on course, even after a little misdirection.

The other newsletter is more about missing a workout:

There will be times when you might have to miss a workout. Just don't get upset over it and let your distress overtake your motivation.
Missing a single workout in no way means that you can't stick to an exercise schedule. This would be a self-destructive mind set. Allowing such negativity to intrude in your life might even make you miss a string of workouts, or set you up to fall off your diet. Let it go and focus on doing your next workout, and your next, and so forth.
Says Biggest Loser trainer Bob Harper: "It doesn't matter how far off track you've gone if you just make a concerted effort every day--the smallest step--you can get control of your life again."
Take a lesson from competitive athletes: Do mental warmups. Start thinking about the benefits of your upcoming workout. The calories you'll burn. The muscle you'll firm. Your body reshaping itself, all in the right places. The stress-relieving chemicals that will flood your system. Imagine how invigorated and rejuvenated you'll feel.
